It'll be interesting, Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert are at the helm, so that means Lucy Lawless will likely be involved in some way, although obviously not be in the starring role. Fans obviously want Lucy Lawless to star, but I think they forget she played the character starting twenty years ago, and hasn't played her in nearly 15 years; even though she did have enough back story to make you almost think she would have to at least be 50-something; especially given that she took part in most of the famous battles gathered from over a 1500 year period.
I don't think having something that historically inaccurate is going to fly today, she won't be fighting in the Trojan War in between her battles with Julius Caesar while Gabrielle is hanging out with Homer. I'm definitely in favour with something set in a mythical version of the Greek dark or bronze ages, and I think that'll be very successful.
I look forward to the new cast, but it's going to be hard to match one with the same charm as the original. I also hope they keep the mix of light-hearted comedy and drama, and that they get an actor just as douchy as Kevin Sorbo to play Hercules for episodes he's in.
You know the Hollywood Reporter author of the article below didn't know a great deal about the series if he refers to Xena as an Amazon.
