Today, September 8th, is the 50th anniversary for the air date of the original series premiere back in 1966.
This series Kickstarted what has become my favourite TV genre. I am currently in the middle of watching the original series for the first time.
I originally assumed the original series was unwatchable today and was all about humans vs Klingons or Romulans in every episode; an incorrect assumption. Surprisingly, the majority of the stories of the Next Generation and later spinoffs are dumbed down from TOS. Season 1's first 14 episodes were all really good, and the remainder of the series has classics such as City on the Edge of Forever, often cited as the greatest Star Trek episode of all time.
Great series, it took me a long time to discover it.
