Cancer, age 76.
She left a tremendous impact on the music industry and is numbered among the all-time greats. She's more famous for her work in the late 60s, which has remained heavily appreciated ever since, but she has a lot of gems from her early career that don't often get as much recognition. It's a shame she didn't redo a number of these songs after studio technology and practices improved; this remaster of the 1964 recording still sounds impressive:
