It was there for irony's sake alone...perhaps a bit a social commentary (the fact that, at the end of the day, we and the apes are one in the same), but that's it. No need to throw in any bullshit about spatial anomolies. They were apes in police uniforms for christ's sake!</div>
This movie was not made for thinking. All of those theories could work, but they also all require making large assumptions not direclty supported by the movie.
