  • Death to Microsoft Points

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

There was an open beta sign up for the new round of xbox live changes that are coming, and I threw my name in.

The only change I can see so far is that they have killed off microsoft points. This is a great boon to Canadians, as we were paying quite a high premium for points on the service. Now, a thing that was 400 points is now $5, and our points that were living on our account are transfered with the old value associated with them (I had ~300 and was given $5.20). This pleases me, and makes me feel a little better when buying things off of XBL.

I wonder if there was some sort of legal or financial reason for the whole transfer of cash to points to buy stuff. After all, it seemed like an unnecessary exchange when the exchange rate was always the same.

MTGO still uses Event Tickets, which have basically become the $1 currency for the whole MTGO economy. You buy cards from bots with Event Tickets (or buy their credits at a reduced rate, but they seem to take forever to put them on your account). You pay to enter tourneys with Event Tickets (their original purpose). But, WotC have cited "legal reasons" for keeping the system as it is. Maybe winning tickets is not considered gambling and winning money is.

When is this supposed to happen?

And yes, this is actually a benefit to Canadians since our calculation was 1 point = $0.0145 instead of the American 1 point = $0.0125. Things just got cheaper for us since everything will just be $5, $10, $15, or $20 now.....unless there's an across-the-board price hike
