In a bizarre twist of fate, I'm somehow part of the uber even though I'm usually the guy saying ubers are bad for any game I play. The recent PvE event I finished at #6 and the margin of victory by the #1/#2 (top 2 = best prizes) was the usual complete annihilation that weak 2* roster players have been delivering for the past 2 months or so. So I was ranting about how noobs are winning all the PvE events and that having a strong roster is a detriment and this is dumb. So, in short, the generic uber rant you'd expect to find anywhere. So I got a bunch of board PvE ubers telling me what I did wrong and so on, and in this game you can see everyone's roster if you know what alliance they belong to, and since the last event rewarded a new character based on placement you can see roughly where these guys placed. So I checked out my critics and found all but 1 of them finished no higher than #21, and the guy who finished above #21 joined a late bracket which is likely winning the JV division. What is a sub #20 finish in MPQ mean? In a typical 7d event, the #1 player can spot the #5 player at most the final 2 hours before losing his place, but can often easily spot an entire day's worth of points to anyone below #20. I've won an event where I can spot the #2 player an entire day and still win. So while I was complaining about losing to guys that can spot me 2 hours and probably still win, I was being corrected by guys who the leader can spot likely 2 days' worth of points and still win. So I guess the correct response is L2P?
While Internet community isn't where one should go to find intelligence, this community still always surprise me in how bad it can go, and it's even more amazing that the game is still so good (perhaps because the developer seems to pay absolutely no attention to their fans, which is a good thing). I had a lot of recent conversation where I'm complaining about the level 395 guys being too hard and I get a ton of response like: "I fought the level 200 version, how much harder can level 395 possibly be?" Then again, I remember when I first joined, one of the popular poster/uber was saying "This game is too hard if they take away my ability to win on my second turn" (Ragnarok won 99% of the game after 1 turn for those who have him back then) and a lot of people agreed with him.
