  • Sony Online Entertanment sold, renamed Daybreak Game Company

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

Yes, I realize the spelling mistake in the title, it was either than or abbreviations in order to fit the character count. I suppose I could have renamed Daybreak Game Company to DGC... Somehow I am getting major dejavu, and have a sudden urge to listen to my 90's CD collection.

I am wondering if this sale included all of the IPs like Everquest, I am guessing that is a large part of it since the game is essential to the business model of the studio.

Yeah they haven't had a hit in a while, Everquest Next is in development hell from what I hear, H1N1 is garbage. That studios has always had a strange disconnect from Sony World Wide, so it's not all that surprising.

I always like Smedley but SOE has lacked solid execution and vision in their games since Sony came in (rip swg).

Two things are interesting to me:

1. Sony must have had very little faith in SOEs current projects (h1z1 and eq next). The timing with PS4 planetside 2 is worth noting.

2. Without SOE, sony has no online first party strategy...and while its too early to think about next gen, that seems like a major issue going forward
