  • What game should I play next?

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

I just bought a Wii-U w/ Mario Kart & Mario Maker. Both are those are pretty lightweight fluff type games. I'll master Mario Kart in a few days. Mario Maker is a neat distraction. I've been told that Xenoblade Chronicles X is a great game.

I also have a PS3 & I just finished Fallout 3 and liked it a lot. I saw a used copy of Fallout: New Vegas for cheap at the local game store.

Now w/ kids I only limited time to play games in the evenings so I want to ensure I don't waste my time on crappy games. Both of these look to be pretty time consuming.

Which would you recommend and why?
  • Xenoblade Chronicles X
  • Fallout: New Vegas
  • Something else

While I recommend playing New Vegas, probably don't play it on PS3. I played it on 360 and it was janky as hell. Perhaps it was fixed a bit in updates, not sure, but after trying the PS3 version for a couple hours (after patches) I encountered nothing but bugs. So if you can play it on a PC, do that (or 360).

Get Mario 3D World for Wii U and play with the wife.

Thanks for the heads-up on New Vegas.

My wife hates 3D games. She's 2D Mario all the way and loving Mario Maker.

Mario 3D world is a fake 3D game, there's even a run button! If you like the 2D Mario games you'll like this one more then say Sunshine or Mario 64.

But you should play Xenoblade X, just to explore the world it provides, absolutely beautiful game.

New Vegas was great. It's arguably better than Fallout 3 in just about every way. Obsidian made many QoL improvements that just about ruined Fallout 3 replaying for me and the overall experience is just better. Almost all of the DLC is good even when replaying through the game.

You're trying to 100% it aren't you? The actual story doesn't take that long!

I normally play 10-30 hours of home console gaming in a month. I think I am around 80 into XCX right now. I'll likely end at around 70-95% completion, 100% is too stressful to track everything down.

I've put like 180 hours into XCX....

I don't think I'm anywhere near 100%. I mostly focused on gear in end game - too much god damn farming for components. I beat Telethia (in skell) and Pharsis (on foot)... don't know if I really wanna do anything else in the game. Beating Telethia on foot just seems like an agonizing amount of farming for little to no benefit :p

Mario 3D World and New Super Mario U are the best 3D (ish) and 2D Mario games ever made. They're awesome, don't miss out on them. You already played Mario Kart (the best in the series). Yoshi's Wooly World would be great with the kid, my kids loved it (7 and 5 years old).

If you have a PS4, Until Dawn would be a great game if you and the wife like horror movies. It's the closest thing I've seen to an interactive movie.

So good. Snatched it up when it was on sale for $30, played with a friend and totally worth it.

I also picked up Yoshi's Woolly World for my wife and she loves it (she's a knitter). Just beat it. Gameplay is the same as other Yoshi games. Graphics are beautifully done with almost everything looking like it's made of yarn or other crafting material (photorealistic).
