  • Seiken Densetsu 1(Final Fantasy Adventure GBA in US) remake!

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

I would be much more excited about this if

1) The Vita version wasn't just a port of the mobile version, with the mobile interface still intact
2) There was more than a .5% chance of it ever being localized.

So your name for the past 20 years means you're a fraud?! :P

Haha, the secret is out! I *tried* to play it but couldn't get into it. It just didn't feel related to SD2 at all. I really liked SD3 though. Played the English translation on the emulator all the way through.

Same mythology, same macro plot structure, but different universes.

I was the other way around though, FF Adventure is what made me immediately interested in Secret of Mana.

As far as original Gameboy games go, FF Adventure was my most played next to FF Legend 2.

The beginning of Final Fantasy Adventure was fucking rough, I can't lie I had to restart it a bunch even as a kid with my limited attention span because I had no idea wtf to do or where to go.

The world was more opened up than other games, particularly GB games.

On the bright side, the trailer for this version of the game implies they're enhancing the original version/design of the game rather than overhauling it like they did with the Sword of Mana version. Sword of Mana totally derailed the pacing of scenes, they turned one of the best final battle/ending sequences into something that much more resembled what happened in Breath of Fire 3. Plus, when they redid the music, they tried making it more flowery, but took all of the oomph out of the beautiful Uematsu 8-bit original.

Looking at the trailer... It seems they're going with a landscape view, which I personally dislike on mobile when it comes to any console/handheld ports of games. I have found that games that do portrait view are vastly superior feeling ports.

I just got to Wendel. I have to say, this game IS true to the original. I'm enjoying it a lot more than Sword of Mana. The interface isn't sloppy like FF7 iOS's, and works very well; actually FF7 works well too, it's just weird having a controller interface to navigate the menus with buttons over stuff in certain menus.

FF7 actually works better than FF6, but for display purposes, the game should have been portrait view rather than landscape.

I'm enjoying it quite a bit; but I have played through a lot of RPG ports with touchscreen controls, including FF7 recently. This game is adapted for iPad quite well compared to other games like FF7 which are pretty much straight up ports with a controller slapped on. The menus are done quite well, and the simplistic battle controls work well; it's effectively one button for attack plus a dynamic virtual control stick. There is another button for an item or magic, plus 3 shortcut buttons for other items/magic.

I am playing on iPad mini, it's what I play most games on.

As far as progress, I've made it to Jadd; which is around the halfway point.

I wanted to follow up this post. This is exactly what they did. This update is faithful to the original game, and it's great! =D

I am at the end of Dime Tower by the way.

Finished this game. Such beautiful memories =D

The game is an upgrade of the original rather than a re-imagining like Sword of Mana. I didn't like Sword of Mana, all of the extra stuff added was just a lot of fluff that destroyed the pacing and the drama. Although the idea of having a second version of the quest for the girl was interesting.

Now I hope Square brings over an upgraded Final Fantasy Saga/Legend trilogy; especially the first two, which came out around the same time as Final Fantasy Adventure.

I plugged in my old Samsung Galaxy S3 & it still works. Once I beat Xenoblade Chronicles X I think I'll buy it on the Google Play store. I'll finally beat SD1 & restore some honor to my name.

ok the nostalgia hit me pretty damn hard picking this game up, it's a straight up 1:1 faithful remake of the GBA version. ;O

Then the nostalgia hit me in a bad way when I got to Kett Manor and I couldn't proceed and had to grind enemies for 30 minutes until one of them dropped a freakin axepick !

Again it might be because when I played this game I was a fucking child but I feel like this version gives far better direction on where to go and what to do then the GBA version. It still has those fuck you moments, like if you don't have a key or mining pick you've got to either grind enemies or leave and find a shop(Always keep 2 stacks of both on you!) but aside from that I've been able to progress quite smoothly. There's no hand holding in this game, just exploration, dungeons, and killing dudes.

I found the original design to be overall superior to Sword of Mana on GBA. Pacing was better, the game felt less confined, and it felt more like a constant adventure.

Sword of Mana, despite having much more dialogue, lacked the same sort of drama as the original. I found the final battle of the original to have a lot of impact. A few lines of dialogue - accompanied by the soundtrack - really pumped me up for the battles a lot more than most games have done. Sword of Mana had much more interaction and dialogue, but it was more like a slow moving bog.

Why they didn't do this obvious true-to-the-original remake back in the GBA era?

Final Fantasy Adventure was originally an FF spinoff, and its content was very much that - the Japanese title roughly translates to "Sacret Sword Legend: A Final Fantasy Spinoff." After the Mana series took off and became its own thing, the team wanted to redo Final Fantasy Adventure as a true first entry into the Mana universe. Sword of Mana on GBA was that remake. The FF stuff was removed, and they infused a lot more Mana series stuff into the game; including rewriting the plot to be a clear part of the rest of the Mana series. Unfortunately, this didn't work out. I don't think the game's quality was high enough to catch the attention of newer Secret of Mana fans - and older fans of FFA (like myself) were disappointed with Sword of Mana.

So Adventure of Mana is a HUGE treat, and I am probably going to play it again in the near future.

I finally got this game & it's great. Gameplay is pretty easy. Music is better than expected. It's light and fun. I like the nods to SoM with the ring menu and various sound effects. I got the "Bundle of Mana" which came with both AoM and SoM. I may play through SoM yet again if I have time.
