It’s basically a handheld only Switch with longer battery life, smaller size, and costs $199. Joycons can still be connected to control games that require motion controls, but require a separate charge station. It will be launching September 20th, on time for the release of the new Pokémon games.
A fairly good model to expand the number of Switches in your household if additional Switches will only ever be played in handheld mode (which I have found, tends to be the case; 100% of the time if we play on TV, we’re using mine, and we always do handheld mode for local multiplayer). So very good additional models for your wife and kids (or you and your kids if your wife is the primary gamer, or you and your wife if your kids are the primary gamers).
