In today's market we tend to see a lot of overpriced games that always complain they don't make enough money. I think there's a few old series that can be brought back that'd at least be able to make a cheapish game that's playable. This would have to be a series, so no Skies of Arcadia here. I don't necessarily think these will be awesome games but they'd be better than most games so it's worth a shot.

Wild ARMS - The only good game in the series was the original Wild ARMS (even alter code F feels pretty out of place for some reason) but one good game was enough to spawn a franchise of 5 games, so they must have done something right. I think Wild ARMS would make a very good generic RPG, which is what the first Wild ARMs is, as long as it has the same quality of music. I think they try too much innovation, especially as the later story gets pretty dark like you find out the fact that Cecilia loves Rudy inadvertantly doomed Filgaia because she's the last Adlehyde and Rudy isn't human so she can't have kids so the Adlehyde bloodline died out and there were no more people who can directly communicate with the Guardians by the time Wild ARMS 2 came around so they have to start sacrificing random children like Tim or Colette to talk to the Guardians again. I mean seriously, I really didn't need to know that what looks like a generic boy meets girl relationship ended up dooming an entire planet and led to children getting murdered a thousand years down the line, and I think by the time Wild ARMS 3 comes around the metal demons have already won and all your work in the previous games were for naught. A new Wild ARMS should have the same old 'hope springs eternal' theme that made the first game good. As long as they still have the same composer and a halfway decent development team, it's hard to see this being screwed up. Heck they tried to screw things up in Wild Arms Altered Code F but it's still a passable game, even without the awesome opening theme.

Langrisser - A game that can easily be mistaken for porn since it's drawn by a guy most well-known for porn. It might as well be a dating sim especially with Langrisser 5 you got to have a significant other or you die in the final battle no matter what. It's also surprisingly hard and you can potentially save in a spot where you cannot possibly win because the enemies are too strong (but that's what cheat codes are for). It's a game where High Elves are always the best unit in the game but the elves are cute. Finally quite a few of the game lets you slaughter your own harem, which is something that's almost never done anywhere. There's something really satisfying when you get to kill Shelfaniel, Angelina, Jessica, and Rachel in one battle after wasting probably 40 hours trying to act nice to them. The gameplay will never come close to Fire Emblem but Fire Emblem's girls and quasi dating sim simulation part never comes close to the Langrisser's girls. And don't forget about the flying charge. There's never a move as ridiculous as that in a SRPG and it combines well with the difficulty curve. You'd be working your way toward a scenario and one of the uber enemy cavalry will show up, like Leon or Emily. They'd do a flying charge and instantly kill one of your characters (and any death permanently impacts the ending so you got to start over), and it's okay because it's the FLYING CHARGE. This is the only strategy game I'm aware of where cavalry units are considered as flying units, though that surprisingly actually captures how powerful cavalry is supposed to be (flying unit have a permanent 25% terrain bonus and non anti-air units have greatly lowered initiative against flying units).

Shining Force - Not the Shining series because it's too encompassing. I guess this can either be a SRPG or a Diablo clone. Either way Sega does a pretty good job at either.

There are two that come to mind.

1. I would LOVE to see the Soul Blazer/Illusion of Gaia/Terranigma series Resurrection. Or at least remade. I know this is probably unrealistic given that the team that made this series has been gone for a while.

2. Earthbound/Mother have been just an accessory to Smash Brothers outside of Japan for 17 years now, but it has a very active fanbase which has carried on. On the Miiverse, by far the most off topic posts in the communities - especially the Virtual Console community - are things relating to Earthbound. This is something that can realistically happen seeing as how the President of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, was the head programmer on the game, and also deserves a Design credit for the game as well since he designed the towns, the world map, and the encounter system (I would presume the battle system as well). The other major person was the writer - Shigesato Itoi - who is one of Japan's most popular authors, but I don't think he is out of the question to get on-board.

Skies of Arcadia would have been another for me, but you kiboshed it =P

It's a crime against humanity that Terranigma has not been experienced by more people.

Skies of Arcadia and Terranigma didn't have any niche to fill because they're top notch games so having more of these would always be good but you don't just randomly stumble upon these either. Having another Chrono Trigger calibur game would be awesome too but it hasn't happened for like 15 years. Now having a new Earthbound I can certainly see happening. It'd probably do well if it sells for $20 assuming it retains its quirky and relatively low budget design.

Nintendo is looking to be in real trouble pretty soon, so I wonder what tricks they will try to pull out to get some actual hype going for their machine? This might be Earthbound levels of desperation that they soon see.

Nintendo has had the weakest system in terms of power for a while so naturally it'd make sense if they have a Steam like platform (relatively cheap games that are lower on firepower but make up with volume and price), though Nintendo embracing a Steam like platform seems like a outright contradiction based on history. I think Nintendo always has this 'one title carries a system' attitude whether it's Mario or Zelda or Pokemon but I think the era of having a single game or even a single company carrying your system is over. Even WoW isn't going to be carry Blizzard for much longer and I don't think any game even comes close to the type of revenue WoW was pulling in and it's unlikely to ever happen again.

Heh, we've been spamming the Miiverse, particularly the Virtual Console sections, with lots of Earthbound inspired art and such.

Nintendo has been teasing the red splatter Xenogears X alongside a Tetsuya Takahashi game featuring Mechs/Gears. Sorya Saga has also been hinting at things on her twitter. That's why I didn't say Xenogears/Xenosaga on my list - because there's a strong probability there. It is probably a matter of licensing at this point.

I'd say the exact same thing about Panzer Dragoon Saga.

A Sega exec did mention they may do an XBLA port. If they do, get it. Don't think about it, just do it. It's that damned good

*smacks forehead* You haven't been reading the other threads, have you? It's honestly too early to say anything about the Wii U, especially considering how so many other systems had such horrible releases their first year that went on to be huge successes

I don't think it's too early to speculate about the Wii U. It is very early, but it isn't outselling any current hardware while it is supposed to be the new hotness, how is it supposed to compete with the Sony and Microsoft offerings come this fall? It's not even getting ports of contemporary 3rd party content outside of its launch lineup, how is it supposed to get any decent 3rd party games when it will be too underpowered to even get a port? It's had a Dragon Quest AND a Monster Hunter in Japan and it still sells poorly.

If even I am not thinking about buying it, Nintendo has done something wrong.

I'M not even thinking of buying it, not yet. But then again, it's too early yet.

Seriously, Seeker didn't even attempt to spin it. Stick to the 3DS is Nintendo's savior this generation argument. :p

No, I'm sayin' it's WAY too early to declare them dead. First years are often tough on new consoles. Let's see what happens this year.
