  • OK, Nintendo, your move (Mother 3)

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

Remember that kick-ass fan translation released a couple years ago for Mother 3? Well, the guys who created it submitted it to Nintendo and allowed them to use it free-of-charge in hopes of having the game released on the North American VC (for the 3DS, of course)

http://mother3.fobby.net/blog/2013/04/2 ... -nintendo/

The guy running it has some professional translation credits to his name and even offered to change it to meet whatever standards Nintendo wants.

Nintendo was always pretty good about being hands off when it comes to Mother on the Internet, for better or worse. They coulda easily stopped the fan translation from ever being released (it's still available on the same website, BTW) and never went after the fan group for making money off of it (the guide they released was amazing). But they've also never supported releasing anything here in North America until they finally succumbed to the pressure (and INSANE Ebay prices) of Earthbound fanboys nagging them for 15 years.

Really, they have no excuse now. Take a good translation, have your guys review it, let the guy make the changes for free, and give it to us on a digital download (which is their big thing nowadays; notice how scarce 3DS first-party releases are in stores?). Just sit back and make more money than you think in the way you want with negligible up-front costs (I'm sure the guy will also provide them with a translated ROM). Let's see if Nintendo of America can make their Japanese overlords finally see the light and make money.

I'm sure once they see the sales of Earthbound on the VC and how it's triple their internal expectations they'll finally get past their stubbornness and Iwata will roll around naked on all the Earthbound profits they'll make
