Holy fuck this game plays with my emotions like no other game.

Holy Shit @ Winter segment.

Holy Shit @ the final level in the hospital. I was right there with Joel, what's that? Oh...you wanna kill Elle, you all have to die. I caught myself at certain points like, "ok I can sneak past...no wait, they want to hurt Elle, fuckers gotta die, each and every last one of you mofos is dead." 0 Mercy.

This game made me worry about that kid in a way I think Bioshock Infinite WANTED me to worry about Elizabeth, but Elizabeth never really seemed like she was in danger throughout the game. Elle was just a kid, and you felt for Joel by the end. Was it a selfish decision?...yeah lol, could anyone who's played through the game really object? Not really, basically by the end of the game you understand Joel's decision, the game wraps up your fucking emotions into the characters so much there's almost no way you don't care what happens.

I see you went just as mad as Joel.

I tried to stop everything. I knew it was too late, but I did. I walked about that operation room for several moments.

It was not the obvious ending, or the good ending, or the ending you'd expected. And when I say 'you', I mean me and what I'd assume would be a majority. The good of the many over the good of one (or two, in this case) is a typical outcome.

But I liked the outcome, because it's what Joel would have done at that point. Three key moments in the game inform his decision:

1. Death of daughter
2. Ellie telling Joel that everyone she ever knew left her
3. Trauma and recovery after machete scene

I guess you could include the nurturing of Joel during the wound and maybe the giraffe scene too (which I thought was just beautiful). Though I don't think either really affected his decision drastically, just enforced.

The ending lead-up would have had more of an impact had they made Joel kill the doctor as soon as you enter the room. The fact that you physically have to walk up and decide to kill him -- with no option not to -- breaks the flow greatly. I ended up torching him with the flame thrower (the only time I used it!) when I realized there was no way to make the decision to sacrifice her.

Because really, Joel makes his choice when he kills the guard escorting him (and follows through with the subsequent 20 guys or so). So why then give the player the option of walking around that operating room, other than to decide with which method they'll dispose of the doctor?

I shot the doctor in the foot, and he crumbled to the ground it was kind of bizzare lol.

I'd heard that if you walk right into him, Joel will stab him in the neck with the scalpel.

Just beat it today. I immediately shot the first doctor when I saw him going for the scalpel, and then smashed the other male doctor into the wall and ran out with Ellie.

Incredible story. The combat arenas became a little silly, but it all felt really rough and I never felt like I was in full control of any situation unless I successfully stealthed the whole thing. When combat starts up, it felt really sloppy and desperate and that fit pretty well with the tone of the game.

I thought meeting up with those two other survivors in the hunter territory was sort of typical and predictable, but everything else was really emotional and cool. Fall and Winter were pretty rough.

Great game. Probably one of the best of the generation.

I knew you would be the next to show up!

Just finished my second play (survivor difficulty). The two big differences are: you get next to nothing to craft with and; there's no 'listen mode' (see through walls). Both are easy to adjust to on a second playthrough. In the case of no seeing through walls, you just listen and be patient. Stealth is almost mandatory to conserve ammo and alcohol/cloth for medkits.

Anyway, I turned the doc's scalpel on him and butchered the other two docs this time around. Somehow I'd never had a noticeable shotgun headshot up to that point - or maybe it was just that it was in cold blood - but I took off HALF of one of those doc's heads and then torched the second because I'd had a molotov left over.

And you usually can. I'd say it's even a little too easy to stealth whole sections (especially Winter with Ellie and her knife). The only thing in this game that makes absolutely no sense is that Joel NEVER HAS A KNIFE. I guess that would make stealth kills too quick, and clicker kills too easy.\

Sarah, Tess, Henry and Sam were all very predictable deaths. Cliche or expected as they might have been (since we knew it would be Joel and Ellie at the end), they all served some greater role to the story and development of Joel's ultimate decision.

Definitely the best PS3 exclusive. It's up with Fallout 3, Skyrim, Mass Effect (series) and XCOM for my favorites of this gen.

Crime against humanity that more of us haven't played this.

Then again, I think everyone with a PS3 (aside from Zeus) has posted here.

I can see that this game is definitely not for everyone. If the story doesn't grab you, then it's just a pretty repetitive game of doing very similar combat or stealth encounters over and over again.

That first scene with Sarah hooked me in immediately, and the game didn't really let go of me until the end. I find that I really get attached to games that bring out emotions from me, and this succeeded.

Has anyone played the multiplayer? I haven't touched it.

Just one session. I played three matches and it was fun enough. I didn't get a grasp of how the whole survivors thing went (you play a lot of matches to strengthen/grow your community of survivors). Seems to have depth. Would play again.
