I will be staying the Mekong Delta for about 3 days in early/mid-December, and would like to see as much as possible. I was thinking to spend a night or two in Can Tho, but see that other recommend Ben Tre/other places.
Is Can Tho a bad "home base" for exploring and seeing Mekong (including floating markets, interesting sites, getting a sense of the delta).
We are really focusing on central/western Mekong Delta, as we only have 3 days or so and will need to return to HCMC to catch a flight (so we don't want to spend too much time racing back to HCMC).
Any thoughts are much appreciated. Also, any recommendations for quality homestays would be great. I've seen listings for some places in Can Tho, but am curious to know more about options in the area.
We prefer less touristy options (is Can Tho too touristy?), but want to be able to get back to HCMC fairly quickly when the time comes (by private car if necessary)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
