Titanfall

The beta went up on Friday, and then it became an open beta yesterday.

The game was initially unplayable on Friday, as the servers were just dead. Saturday I hit a few matches and it is pretty cool! It is a 6v6 multiplayer game with creeps. The main mode is about scoring more points than the opposing team through killing pilots (players), creeps, and titans.

The game is just a general mix of a MOBA and COD4, but with mechs that you can summon to either jump in or you can give orders to and they will autonomously carry out. It is extremely fast paced, but very cool. You don't have to be excellent at FPSs to be any good, as you can just concentrate on killing the creeps instead of focusing on the pilots. It feels great, looks pretty okay (nothing about it really screams next-gen).

I heard that the PC beta was becoming open, so you guys should try it. It is pretty good.

That sounds so unappealing...that is probably the worse thing that can be said about an online only FPS.

You should really give it a go. You may be surprised by the enjoyment you get out of it.

I'm not sure why it sounds unappealing to you. It just has multiple things to do in order to score points that make you feel like you are pushing your team forward. Games like Battlefield have tried to do this by giving your individual character points for healing, repairing, and rearming teammates. You are feeling like you are contributing, even though you are basically scoring no points for your team and only attempting to help people who are more effective at the game than you. Titanfall gives beginners, at least, the option to be scoring points for their team by killing AI grunts. It gives beginners an easy way to learn how to use the weapons and abilities and gaining access to their titan faster in the process.

The traversal and Titan mechanics are really neat and fun, as are the relatively brief multiplayer sessions. It is a cool game, and I think you may be surprised by it.

Pfft, you probably only like old school arena style shooters.

Make way for the glorious modern ez mode god tier FPS Shooters!

I've heard a lot of mixed things about this game. The amount of auto-aim weapons in the PC version really turns me off. I may pick this up when it's ~$20-$30 since it sounds like it could be fun but just not something I'm going to pick up full price. Since it's an EA published/Origin game I have a feeling waiting 6-9 months for it to drop in price will only result in a more positive experience.

Most of the people who seem to like this game are enamored with first person shooters on consoles, which doesn't always translate well into PC. I've seen comparisons to Halo, which ultimately lacked too much personality to be enjoyable in multiplayer on the PC.

Yeah it won't be $20-30 on PC since it's on Origin until maybe before Titanfall 2 comes out. EA specifically made Origin so they don't have to drop their PC game prices until they want to. Battlefield 3 was 59.99 until Battlefield 4 entered beta.

They have big sales once in a while so they can bring themselves into some kind of recognition in comparison to Steam. It's bad enough that I'll probably be buying Dragon Age 3 full price from them later this year heh

This game will fizzle and die - mark my words. If it wasn't for the fact that it is an XB1 exclusive (which it really isn't), I contend far less people would even care.

And yes, populating an FPS with bots so bads can feel less useless is so utterly depressing. Not just because its...insulting...but because it is lazy design.

Eghh....EGHHHH!

Isn't this basically what console shooters have always been but now there are just lines to show how much it's helping you make you think you're good? ;)

Also, I'm almost certainly not going to buy this game after seeing that. Sometimes I think I should just call it quits with shooters in general (not counting first person RPGs that happen to have guns).
