Notch also canceled Minecraft for it the moment that he heard the announcement because "Facebook creeps me out."

This also seems like a massive purchase, and not particularly worth it. Similar to the purchase of WhatsApp for 19 billion a month ago.

It is highly possible Zuckerberg has gone crazy.

Zuckerburg is doing the honorable thing of supporting what should hopefully be future technology that revolutionizes the way things work. There's literally nothing better for an eccentric billionaire to do with their money, not counting charity which he does as well.

Eh, guess I was probably wrong. What was bringing the Oculus Rift attention in the past was it's openness to developers and there's a good chance Facebook isn't going to follow up on that. I don't know why you would bother buying the tech if you were just going to close it off and try to make a quick buck. No one REALLY cares about virtual reality tech as it is enough to buy it and fucking things up when they're still on the runway and building public support was basically a really dumb idea.

I do think there is the potential that Zuckerberg is just a little nuts.

I would have thought it a little nuts to purchase something like WhatsApp for more than 150 million, given it only makes about 20 million in total revenue annually, then he bought it for 19 billion dollars.

It's guys like him that make Jackson Pollock paintings valuable.
