Is anyone collecting these things? I knew Nintendo was going to copy Disney and the Skylander games eventually, but i had no idea they would be this huge. Almost makes me want to jump in the market for resell purposes only. $25k for an accidental legless Peach Amiibo!? insane..

Burn it with fire.
Hate the concept behind these things. It seems like a more diabolical take on DLC (at least based on how the article describes them, they have the potential to be. E.g. needing an Amiibo to access certain features within a game).
It's also a collector money sink re-hash of Pokemon - article even says Nintendo has no idea how many people are actually using these for games. I really have no problem with this angle - people will always want to collect figurines related to hobbies they enjoy. Some of them are pretty cool looking, too.

I collect them, but only as figurines, not for their gameplay application simply because they are all Smash Bros based, and I am not particularly a fan of that franchise anymore. I might use them for gameplay purposes when they have applications in games that I like.
They aren't DLC either, how they function are like little memory cards which record statistics and AI procedures. You train them up, then you can take them around and battle other people's.
The unfortunate thing is that they're hard to come by. Especially the ones I want, like Fire Emblem characters and such. Commons like Mario, Link, and Peach are worthless to me since they have lots of pre-existing figurines.

A buddy of mine has gone crazy for them. He has imported a few from Japan and bidded on others.

I work with a few people who have gone insane with them. We call them the Amiibros.

Dont they work with way more games than just Smash Brothers? In that regard, they are like DLC, if only certain Amiigo's can unlock certain aspects of random games. The article i linked mentioned they do that.

I suppose that they could make a DLC add-on application that would function like an amiibo, but that would be some pretty lame DLC. Amiibo features are pretty tack-on IMO, there isn't really much there. Nothing I would get excited over.

I've got one to three of each so far. Unfortunately, the craze is making it take a lot more time than I want it to. It's annoying, really
