I'm building my first PC soon. It's mostly for work, but mostly for games. I'll be re-buying Witcher 3 for my third playthrough and can't wait to run it in Ultra. I'll probably play XCOM2 again as well, since it ran like shiiiiit on my MBP.

BUT! I haven't played any PC games in like, forever. I'm not looking to go back and play old isometric CRPGs or System Shock-era FPSs, though I'm not opposed to checking out something like New Vegas again (since it was a crashfest on 360).

i7 6700k
GTX 1070
32GB 3200k RAM

...I imagine I'll be able to run just about anything at Ultra 60FPS+ at 1080. The 1440p monitor will have to wait.

Give me your recommendations!

I agree with CK2. Super hard to get into at first, but very rewarding once you understand it.

I really cant think of much lately that has kept my interest. I still revisit The Guild II - very niche game though (and old). Mad Max, Shadow of Mordor and Fallout 4 are all worth revisiting for HD gaming.

I think I may revisit FO4 as well now that you mention it. Did a very quick playthrough on PS4 then sold that motherfucker. Maybe there are rad mods, or I can get it cheap with all the DLC down the road (which, hopefully, will add some better stories than the main game).

CK2 looks like the kind of game, like Civ or Romance of the Three Kingdoms, where I could play 8 hours straight and not even realize it.

I know you said you weren't going to play OLD isometric CRPGs, but a couple newer ones worth checking out are Divinity: Original Sin and Pillars of Eternity.

FO4 is definitely worth a re-visit. Do you like sim city games? If so, check out Cities and Skylines.

And I'll also reinforce Kali's mention of Shadow of Mordor. Really fun, mindless (kinda) game.

CK2 is pretty much Romance of the three Kingdoms with crazy levels of depth.

It's the same sort of concept in the same sort of way a small town is the same concept as a sprawling metropolis. Basic elements of RotK are there, but then there's a WHOLE lot more.

Anything Blizzard
Pick a MOBA, they're actually fun for a while, just mute team chat
Total Warhammer is great if you love Warhammer
Dawn of War 2 and all it's expos are good, Dawn of War 3 is coming soon!
Any Civilization game.

Other then that, if you're rockin a 1070, you're gonna get 60FPS+ easily on anything and everything @ 1080p unless the game is horribly optimized. Indulge in console games that look great that are locked @ 30FPS on console then amp that bitch up on PC, Deus EX, Rise of the Tomb Raider, etc. If it's locked @ 30FPS on PC for some stupid reason look for a patch/mod to make it 60FPS+.

Thanks gentlemen. I really should have stocked up on some stuff during Steam's summer sale. Oh well.

All of my parts came except for the GPU and case. Gotta quickly decide how I want to obtain Windows 10 before next week...

If getting CK2, the game is HEAVILY expanded, and they're most,y all great expansions: like adding whole new types of governments, which are much more than a series of bonuses (like Civilization), but offer vastly different sorts of buildings, relations with vassals, buildings, etc... Others add whole new time periods: like bumping the start date back from 1066 at the battle of Hastings to 769 with the rise of Charlemagne. Another one gives the cultural stuff for the Vikings, another for the Mongols, etc... There are bundles that save you tons of money, and then they often get discounted 75%, so you can get hundreds of dollars of stuff for like $40-50.

Me too. And I'm sure I will continue to do so when I get the PC version!

Just as a heads up. CK2 + all DLC is on sale now for 75% off; with the exception of the latest $11 CAD expansion.

You can get a bundle with everything except the new DLC for $43 Canadian. That includes the main game, all 15 previous expansions, and dozens of minor DLC packs. Pretty much everything released between 2012 and 2016, minus the latest expansion. That's a massive game when all added up.
