Things I'd like to see in Civilization 3.....

<div style='font: 12pt Modern; text-align: left; '>1) Rather than do what Call to power did and focus on extending the timeline to the year 3000 (as it means that 80-90% of the game takes place using futuristic technology), I'd rather see them actually move the focus to Medival and ancient tactics. Civilization 2, the Ancient age and the Renaisance just bolt right by, the Industrial age isn't that much longer either (though it does take about as long as the other two combined) and then the Modern age is about 60% of the game. It should be closer to 30% of the time playing in the Ancient age, 30% in the Renaisance (mostly Medival technology with early gunpowder weapons in the later period), 20% in the Industrial age and 15% in the Modern age, 5% with Futuristic technology (with more possibility for advances after the game is actually won).
2) More civilizations, and change the nature of the map somehow so they can all fit in the world, in the current game on the world map, only one civilization can fit in Europe, even though most civilions are defaulted to begin in Europe, it should be possible for 10 civilizations to start in Europe with most of them having a healthy advance.
3) The possibility for entire Kingdoms to surrender, which, like in Alpha Centauri, would allow your troops full access to the enemy cities, as well as recieving a tax from each city in Science, Income, and production for your main cities. It should also be possible to found such cities. If a large number of these cities becomes unhappy, they can revolt, or if the Ruler feels that a certain group of cities is a drain on the Empires resources, he/she can grant them Independance with a lasting Alliance treaty.
4) Expansion of politics, basicly, more treaties allowed, and more area's to conduct diplomacy in when communicating with other civilizations, for example, demand that a civilization give up a city that's in a strategic location that harms your Empire.
5) Better trade system, not like the Call to Power system, but more advanced than the current one in Civilization 2.
6) Nomadic/semi Nomadic Tribes, basicly have sort of semi-Civilizations that you can trade and conduct diplomacy with, however there would be limits to them, possibly they can't advance in technology, but can recieve technology from other civilizations. Rather than the current system in civilization 2 where villages cover the world, have these tribes cover the world. Also, when there is a Barbarian Uprising (or a violent Nomadic tribe arises), allow diplomacy with them, give them a good AI, and power to their military units, enough that they're sure to conquer a city or several cities in the area. When one of these tribes attains a certain level (maybe a certain number of cities) perhaps they could become a Civilization themselves.
7) Disasters, such as plagues that would spread throughout cities depending on some factor and would kill off a population unit each turn randomly and depending on the level of plague in the city. Droughts which could reduce the amount of food recieved from unirrigated lands. Basicly something that would actually allow the power in civilizations who have over expanded and have other internal problems to colapse, while the stronger ones survive.
8) Religion, I don't know how to fit this in, but perhaps religions could exist as a seperate AI (unlike Call to Power where the civilizations governments control religion) which spreads throughout a civilization which could cause other civilizations of a similar religion to like you, and others who are primarilly made up of a different religion to oppose you (depending on the time period). Something like that, I haven't thought about how religions can be implemented in the game, though they have been a very large part of every civilization in the world.
9) Focus a lot more on ancient military tactics. In civilization 2, units are all fairly similar to each other until you get up into the Modern age which has the widest Variety of units. Not to mention, there should be significantly more units added to the game, as well as Civilization exclusive units (like for example, the Japanese could develop technology that allows the Samurai Unit from Iron Working, while the Scottish would develop a different type of fighter, etc...), this would give each civilization certain attributes that make it very unique from other civilizations. Don't stop on units though, maybe even governments and the tech tree as a whole, for example, maybe only the Romans and the Greeks can develop the Republic as an ancient technology, while other civilizations develop it as a renaisance technology. If they recieve the technology from the Romans or the Greeks for the Republic, they would recieve the government Rebublic (ancient) and if they developed it, it would be Republic (renaisance or Industrial), and civilization advances leading from the renaisance or Industrial version can't be acquired from the ancient version until the actual age of the renaisance or Industrial age begin (confusing, still not 100% sure on how this could work).
10) A record of the History of each civilization. right now Civilization 2 has the Power graph, big deal. Make something FAR more comprehensive than what's in civilization 2, like a record of wars, their names (the victor could name the war), all the disasters that occured, etc...</div>
