  • Well Square finally did it, FFVI remake

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

What is wrong with Square's art department lately? I like the idea of upping the resolution, but removing a good amount of detail and contrast - from a 16-bit game! - makes it look like it belongs on New Grounds.

Remember how I said I wanted Square to remake FF7? Well, given their track record of fucking up remakes, I can hardly see it being anything short of blasphemy! Although they have a few good remakes under their belt, notably FF4 GBA and DS, and FFT.

It's not like they're incapable of making amazing sprites. It just seems like they don't care and want to cash in as cheaply as possible.

If it looked at all like this I'd never complain.

Looks like a BS re-release disguised as a remake. I'll get it very cheap used

I wasn't aware you could get iOS digital releases used.

Oh, it's iOS? So it's on an unplayable format? What's the point? I guess I'm downloading it and getting an emulator for my comp. Sorry, Squeenix, no money from me

What I don't get is why do Square think their games on iWhatever should cost $30 when it's not even any better than other games out there.

Because Japanese companies are out of touch. Nintendo is sitting on a mobile goldmine, but they only want to release content on their own devices.

I think Nintendo would want a more profitable market overall before they would make the jump.

They also have yet to really unify their handheld and home console market; but at least they are taking steps now since they released Nintendo Network on 3DS allowing for a joint account between Wii U and 3DS. It would be interesting to see what would happen if they made freemium companion apps on iOS.

I'll go get a pirated version of this but I sure as shit won't pay for it.

If they released a real remake on the 3DS with a Collector's Edition for $50 I'd be first in line to pre-order, though.....

Of for fucks sake.

I realize this is just using the artwork, but the original sprite looked better, and more sinister. -_-

Oh Square =P

Yeah, I agree, I kind of imagined more of a Genghis Khan or Tamerlane looking Emperor. Someone who looked both old and incredibly aggressive.

I remember seeing this article saying that it's only the limited resolution of the SNES sprites that prevents you from noticing half of the casts look like they're on crack.

Yeah...the Dissidia designs were perfect, imo.

What do you mean? The sprites in FF6 were drawn to be like Amano's drawings, who definitely look like they're permanently on crack. The FF6 tech demo characters really don't like Amano's designs.
