So of course I got this one; seeing as how it is one of my favourite 2D Platformers. Graphical style remains true to the original Genesis version; no FF6 iOS bs. There may have been a few 2D touch ups, upping the resolution a little. The big graphical story is the addition of 3D; the foreground pops a little, and the background has a lot of depth. 16-bit graphics from the beginning of the 90's really have not looked so beautiful before.
The gameplay has also been enhanced; most notably, Sonic now has use of the spin dash. So the game feels fresh in more ways than just graphics.
3D Altered Beast was also released today, over the next two weeks Sega is also releasing 3D versions of Ecco the Dolphin, Shinobi 3, Galaxy Force 2, and Streets of Rage.
Edit: exploring the options a bit:
• Spin dash can be toggled on or off
• Japanese or International version
• Full button customization
• Classic Resolution or 3DS resolution (much sharper)
• 3D Style: Fall-In or Pop-Out
• Sound volume controls
• Genesis or Genesis 2 style audio
• Save, Load, Reset, Return to Menu
