  • First official Nintendo NX game announced by Square Enix...

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

And it's a big one, Dragon Quest 11, which will also have versions on 3DS and PS4.

I'm a huge DQ fan, owning some of the games on up to three different platforms. This is big news in itself as an announcement, but the fact that it's the first game announcement for NX, Nintendo's next console, might be the bigger news today. There wasn't much expectation for any announcements related to the NX this year; but Dragon Quest 11 is a bigger game than the Wii U has yet seen - so things are already looking very promising for Nintendo's next console in terms of early support.

Another interesting fact is that this is the first Dragon Quest game in its 30 year history developed as a multi-platform title.

Now I am hoping that DQ11 builds on what was achieved with DQ9, if it does, the 3DS version is probably going to be the version to get.

On a side note, they announced the second NX game too, a port of Dragon Quest X.

That's a sexy RPG lineup. I may have to return to the Nintendo fold after all, esp. with KHIII on the system.

The real question for me will be: will KH3 NX compete with the other console versions? I hope they go back to making a real power console.

oh no, maybe I wasn't clear. :O All of those games are on the PS4.

Only Dragon Quest XI is on the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo NX, whatever that ends up being.

Just in general JRPGs seem to be making a nice comeback this gen.

Japan really seems to like the Unreal Engine 4.

The new open world Zelda is out some time next year, and he open world Xenoblade game is out in a few months, those are both fairly massive.

Nearly all of the games Eric listed aren't even out yet, and haven't yet been announced for NX; it was actually a little surprising that any games have been announced for the console before it has been unveiled or really discussed by Nintendo in anything but name. As of now, I am not sure which ones will come. If I were to speculate which RPGs/Adventures will very likely pop up on NX:
-Dragon Quest 11 (confirmed)
-Dragon Quest X (confirmed)
-Tales of something
-Shin Megami/Persona something
-Xenoblade something
-Fire Emblem
-Legend of Zelda
-Metroid
-Super Mario RPG/Paper Mario
-Pokemon
-Golden Sun
-Monster Hunter
-Etrian Oddysey
-Kingdom Hearts

They are probably going to go for a hybrid, or a cross hardware form with a unified platform. Goals Nintendo has brought up are to use unified platforms, and more forms of hardware in order to reach a wider range of audience niches; handheld and home console forms are a given. What that means is there will be a lot of games on both handheld and home console.

My wish and preference is a little different from most/maybe all on this board. I want to see a Nintendo gaming tablet with a capacitive touch screen and also non-gaming apps similar to iOS Pages or MS iPad Office Suite, with syncing options between hardware and clients on other hardware. I do a lot on iPad nowadays, and I would easily dump it for something that offers me as much as I use it for, with the addition of that Nintendo touch; such as Street Pass and casual street pass games.

Wish 2 - I would like to see is the usage of the home console as a central terminal in a similar way to the Fusion Terminal concept from a couple years back; if there are multiple portable device forms, like DS, a single screen handheld, and a gaming tablet, then they should all have the ability to sync to the terminal as well as run independent of it.

My last wish would be to never do something as bulky as the Wii U game pad again. A lot of Nintendo fans will claim the rounded form of Nintendo's "advanced" controllers from Game Cube onward are somehow more comfortable in the hands; I find this is mostly bullshit - but I don't like rounded controllers much. Give me a sleek looking version of an old-school NES rectangular controller, and I'll be much happier: DS Lite, 3DS, GBA SP, iPad, iPhone, all rectangular, all fine.

Eric's post cemented it for me, if I get a nextgen console it'll be a Ps4. Much as I loved my 360...KHIII and the rest of that lineup are calling.
