The Other Worlds Shrine

Your place for discussion about RPGs, gaming, music, movies, anime, computers, sports, and any other stuff we care to talk about...

  • What was the first game you played on CD format?

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

I thought this was an interesting topic on another board, so I thought I would ask the question here as well!

For me it was Megarace

It came bundled with my families first computer. I played the hell out of this game!

Very interested to see what it was for all of you!

Do PSX and DC games count? If so, I think we pulled out Mega Man X4 last year some time

Yes they count. The first game you ever played, console or PC, that was on a CD and not a floppy/cartridge.

I was like eight or nine so it's hard to say. I THINK someone lent my father Myst (and being so young I would have basically only watched it being played), but I also remember playing Day of the Tentacle (rented from Blockbuster for the PC LOL, remember that?) and X-Wing from that era. So I would say either Myst or X-Wing, since it seems kind of unlikely that the first one would have been a rental.

Probably Loom, because I remember that game was one of the first on CD so that there's enough room for voice acting or something.

Yeah, I had a few games that came on lots of disks. I think Earthsiege and it's expansion were 7, and I had some old Terminator FPS that was like 8 or 9.

If that was the one where you could play as Kyle or the Terminator, that game was awesome...and I sucked at it.

And since consoles count, I think I can change my mind - Sega CD, either sewer shark orLunar.

I think it was, I remember a level in an office building and getting lost in it for so long that even though it wasn't hard, I got whittled down just by respawning enemies that slowly wore me down.

Shit, first, not last.......ummm, I would say a PC game for sure, likely Wing Commander 3 or something right around that era

Well, it would have been something on the old 486 (computer before that was a tandy, good ol' 5.25" floppies!)....

Oh, I remember now. It was one of those old shareware compilations by Apogee/Id with games like Commander Keen, Duke Nukem 1 and 2, an old Robocop game that I remember, etc.

Hmm, well i certainly bought a Playstation solely for FF7, but that was obviously much later than PC games. I think it might have been Doom for me, which was released the same year as Myst (had to wiki that). I wasnt much of a Myst guy until later, then played a bunch of those style games.

I remember playing a lot of SimCity, Dune 2, Kings/Police Quest games, but those were all floppy. The era of Warcraft 2 and Duke Nukem was a little later in the 90's.

Oh Encarta - the first to allow children to copy/paste entire reports rather than having to write out entire Encyclopedia articles :)
