The Other Worlds Shrine

Your place for discussion about RPGs, gaming, music, movies, anime, computers, sports, and any other stuff we care to talk about...

  • What Do We Come To The The Shrine To See?

  • Somehow, we still tolerate each other. Eventually this will be the only forum left.

This place has now existed eighteen years. This site is older than Google - itself founded in September of the same year the Shrine started in April.

Whatever our personal differences are; as a community we are now older than most of the biggest sites on the Internet.

I recall with fondness the very early days - recalling particularly the post of a disabled child who said he came here because he didn't have anything else, and appreciated the compassion here so much.

That's what I have continually come back hoping to see.

What do others feel is the reason they come here? What keeps you coming back?

Considering I was, what? 15? 16? When I started coming here, it's really just a place I have come to visit for most of my life.

Also, to paranoidly stand guard in case G-Man comes back to start up shit! =)

In order:
1) Learn about new games I should play / shows I should watch
2) Laugh at the disabled
3) Get in a good debate with smart folks
4) Clean up spam

I wasn't aware we still had any "disabled" people at the Shrine. :)

I remember in the EQ1 official board it was the disabled that are laughing at the rest of us for not being disabled so we can't live on government funds and fall behind on the progression because you got to work.

Well I have trouble with stairs since my surgery and if I tried to run a mile (or even 100 yards) or walk five miles I probably wouldn't be able to walk/walk unassisted for several weeks/months but I'd only consider myself disabled under a very wide/vague blanket of the term. This is also something that won't change since my foot joints have largely been replaced with titanium. Which is a lot less cool then it sounds.

Stupid biology, getting limited by metal when it should be using it to make something bad ass.

Also on topic, I come here to talk about stupid shit with people I like.

I don't pop in as often as I used to, but I pop in to see familiar faces and join in the conversation where I can. I know there have been some awesome moments in this little community, and it's amazing how many people have been here as long as they have.

My love for latex and latex related products. Also for impromptu discussions of importing and exporting. I just can't decide which one to focus on. The importing or the exporting.

I mean, geez, who knows. I dont have it in me anymore to type out long thoughtful posts, but i enjoy reading others (Don) and replying with a "Super!". Call it adult ADD, the joy of the rest of the twitchy internet, or whatever, but i like to pop in here and write a few sentences from time to time.

I've totally given up on trying to start a blog, commenting on dumb news articles with reasonable thought, attempting to be a voice on Reddit, replying to most Facebook posts, troll for no reason but for fun, and engaging on the Internet in general; so, i guess this place is one of the few places i interact with other beings electronically.

I still pop in from time to time because I like (most) of you guys and I rarely find intelligent conversation anywhere else. And Facebook is stupid.

How the #$%^#$&$ do you embed youtube vids on the cludgey god damn forum again? [youtube] tags don't seem to work, iframe embedding doesn't work...

20 years ago going online was like playing a game. Novelty turns into the mundane. This place still had some "real" left in it. And it is good stuff.
