So Eric will probably have criticism of this somehow (elite PC gamer douchebag :D), but I ordered this the other night:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6834232561

Bit pricey (price in CAD) for what you get (in general - all gaming laptops are pricey), but it should serve me well for a while.

My only real gripe with the specs is the use of a 4th generation i7 vs. a 5th or 6th generation. However, when I looked at the benchmarks of the equivalent 5th and 6th generation CPUs compared to the 4720HQ, there is little if any difference (and in some cases the 4th gen comes out on top). Only benefit that I can see from the 6th generation is the use of DDR4 memory - not too worried about that, especially since 24GB of DDR4 is significantly more expensive than 24GB of DDR3L. This makes a difference for me, as I'll likely be topping this laptop up to 32GB of memory.

I know the new G752VT and G752VY will be coming out in November, but the prices I'm seeing on those are pretty high - not worth it for me (especially 4K screen using only a 980M). If I were to spend that much, I'd go with the MSI Titan that has two 980Ms in SLI.

I didn't buy this JUST because I wanted a gaming laptop. I need a fairly powerful 'portable' workstation for when I'm doing digital forensic consulting - being able to game on this is just a plus :)

Ha-ha, so true. I was just expecting a "you think THAT'S a gaming laptop" type comment, accompanied by whipping out of the proverbial e-peen :)

Either of you done much gaming on gaming-grade laptops? This will be a first for me.

I was actually considering buying that Laptop for work/gaming as well at one point. It's disgustingly powerful, you should be able to play everything @ 1080p maxed out Ultra settings @ 60FPS short of having stuff like Nvidia's hairworks or phsyics stuff on.

Only other thing I know about Gaming Laptops is that they used to run very hot, because they're so compact, that problem might not exist with modern laptops, but I'd keep an eye on temps when gaming just in case.

Other then that you're good, welcome to the glorious PC Gaming Master Race.

Now if you'll excuse me.

*Returns to glorious PC 4K Gaming* :P

Not on a gaming laptop per se.. I had a laptop capable of doing semi modern gaming in 2004 (it ran WoW).

For at home use you might want a USB hub if you have a fair amount of peripherals but the model you got has 4 USB ports which is probably enough for gaming. An actual keyboard/mouse setup complete with monitor would probably also be very nice. The display looks meaty enough to use as a potential primary monitor - getting a second monitor is oh-so-nice. My second monitor is considerably shitty compared to my primary and they don't match at all and it's still an amazing add if you can get used to it. Having a second monitor to run Twitch/Netflix/whatever while you're gaming is great in those games with lots of of off time or if you're the type of gamer that likes to do replays.

As for the specs, my desktop has a few years on it and yours beats mine. I'm running a second generation i7 and I'm still happy most of the time with 8GB RAM although at this point I'm probably going to go to 16 in a year or two. Even my video card that I upgraded this year for like $180 is slightly edged out by that monster you got lol

For the record: I've always been a PC gamer. Just haven't kept up with the hardware over the last few years. My laptop is now more powerful than my desktop, which has never happened for me before :p

I was going to build a new PC when Skylake came out, but I'm not terribly impressed by it.

I still might fold and build one, or I might go back and build a Haswell-E 6-Core, since I think those cores might have more use in the next 5 years or so.

I could also just wait for Skylake-E

Decisions, Decisions.

From what I've read, this laptop actually stays pretty cool, and is fairly quiet. One of the reasons I went with it. Some of the gaming laptops were reporting 95-110F temperatures on the touchpad at full load - I believe the one I ordered stays way below that.

I just want this damn thing to show up ><

2015-10-29 07:57:00 On vehicle for delivery

@#$%$#$ and no one at home to take the delivery :p Will likely get it tonight or tomorrow!

So yea... Fallout 4 on Ultra settings runs pretty consistently at 75fps (75hz monitor). Out in open world when there is a lot of fog and the landscape allows for max view distance, I've seen it drop to 45.

Still the best gaming experience I've had on a laptop :p
