Anyone here still actively playing? Game's really in a renaissance and on the upswing, I recommend it for anyone who ever loved it even once upon a time.

There's actually a sixth basic land now. :) The latest expansion is really interesting in a lot of ways.

I don't play MTG anymore but I'm following the story. http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/ar ... 2016-01-13 or the 'Kozilek owns everyone' chapter reads like a bad fanfiction but I guess that somehow fits because it's about someone hallucinating. From what I gather the Planewalkers after the Great Nerf are people who can barely beat a 3/3 on their own and it's got all the classic cheesy stuff you need when 4 of them team up to beat the 12/12 Kozilek. I think the only reason the team of Planewalkers even work is because Gideon Jura is indestructible. It reminds me of a random quote I saw when Wolverine was bragging about how he survived all these conflict and one of his friend pointed out that it's not very hard when your special power is 'not dying'. They even acknowledge that in the story and it's always like, 'hey look Gideon, other people don't got this 'not dying' ability you got so it's pretty hard for them to follow your lead.'

The flavor on the oath is pretty funny too on Chandra. It's like 'yeah, for freedom!', and I bet she was wondering if there was supposed to be a black Planewalker too for a Captain Planet thing, though had there been a black Planeswalker (maybe Liliana) I'm guessing that Planewalker would've already betrayed them since the only two mono Black are Liliana and Ob Nixilis.

Not really. Planeswalkers don't work the same way creatures do, in-game or in the lore. You can't really compare a planeswalker to a creature using just the numbers. A planeswalker can dominate entire fields of armies...*with* enough time...in-game, and probably in the lore too, given enough time. But they're vulnerable on their own.

As for "hallucinating"...the Eldrazi warp reality. Being on the same plane as one when they emerge basically is the equivalent of a nightmare acid trip, except that it doesn't end. You might want to look into the background a bit, certainly more than just the weekly story updates. The Oath of the Gatewatch is Chandra, Jace, Nissa, and Gideon teaming up to watch the Sea Gate in Zendikar to be ready when Kozilek bursts out of it, so the entire plane isn't destroyed. (The latest weekly story update seems to revolve around just that happening, in fact.)

The larger lore right now involves around a conflict between Jace and Ugin as to whether or not the Eldrazi should be hedron-contained as they once were, or destroyed. It's actually reasonably compelling.

But the game itself is really what I'm concerned with. I was hoping others might still be playing, but Flip hasn't been here for months.

I've taken to doing original art and cards lately. It's a lot of fun.

Deal 2 damage to every colored creature
That's racist! ;)

Heh, you should see Ugin the Spirit Dragon (an actual card with an actual ability destroying all colored permanents) if you think that's racist.

...actually, good catch. Ugin's card says "of one or more colors", and I guess that's the wording Wizards uses to avoid controversy.

Fun times for those following the lore:

The recent Pro Tour for Oath of the Gatewatch got *run over* by Eldrazi decks. It's been called the most imbalanced Pro Tour in years, possibly ever. People are nearly up in arms about it, and for good reason:

Overheard on The Meadery, a Magic-oriented social network:

"I guess this means the Oath of the Gatewatch lost."

I always thought the story they've with General Tziri or whatever hallucinating about how Koziliek owned all the Planewalkers should be how the conflict ended.
