He doesn't capture the disillusioned like Trump, the Christian/Tea Party like Cruz, or the people who want a president that will basically spend his entire term dismantling what Obama has done like Rubio. He never found his audience, he just seemed to expect everyone to come to him.

I think he acted a lot like Romney and McCain did and I think the voters have grown weary of that. There's this line that Democrats like Hilary Clinton and Republicans like Jeb Bush kind of straddle to get those moderates and it just isn't giving them the success they were hoping for.

Because his family's record of running the country is so impeccable? How much do you want another eight years of Bu(ll)shshit, Eric? Weren't you IN New Orleans to watch the response to Katrina?

Didn't you get at least a secondhand, if not firsthand, glimpse at how little that family cares about human life?

I'd like to say I think the country is getting the picture, but the truth seems not to be that the GOP is dropping the Bushes because they're too vicious - it's because they don't win anymore. Trump is worse.

I just hope everyone gets the message really early that Trump gives no fucks about justice or compassion either - but he's actually semi-competent, and that's scarier.

"Donald Trump and the Central Park Five" is a very relevant story here about how Trump once took out a $64,000 newspaper ad to call for the brutal execution of five innocent men accused wrongly of rape...and how witch-hunt culture, fascism, and vengeance before justice will be America's soul if it picks Donald Trump to lead us.

Calm your tits sunshine, I don't let my personal views blind me to political realities. Regardless of what common sense says about Jeb and his brother, when it comes to politics and getting idiots to vote for you, you can throw common sense out of the window(George Bush Sr was elected once, George Bush Jr had two fucking terms). If Trump didn't exist I still firmly believe Jeb Bush's dumb ass would have gotten the ticket, I'm not alone in thinking this. This is just a case of everything that could go wrong, has gone wrong, and Trump has turned the GOP's entire process on it's head.

I'm in no way shape or form sad about Jeb Bush dropping out of the election. I think the entire Right is a circus atm and they're just gonna serve someone up to Hilary in the General(No I don't think Bernie is gonna make it, he's too Left, and Hilary is a brilliant scumbag politician), as Zeus what I mean when I say someone is a perfect politician.

My tits are sufficiently calmed. And unfortunately I agree with you about the Bernie/Hillary sitch. And politics and idiocy in general. I constantly have to remind myself that in politics, sociopathy is the baseline.

That's a hard one for me. But if you want to understand why I'm so strident about this - it's not just that I agre that the right is a circus. It's a racist circus throwing peanuts at African-Americans, and throwing hate at my Latino friends, and throwing violent rhetoric at all immigrants everywhere...and just about everyone else with skin color more melanomic than "aged parchment". And anyone who doesn't look like them. Or think like them.

Things are getting out of hand. American politics is turning into something with a really dark soul; it has been for years. It's starting to actually and genuinely terrify me.

Didn't you already admit that you want Trump to win so America gets its ass handed to it?

Yeah, I think I said that in the thread I admitted I hate Mexicans and gay people.

*shrug* I have met at least two people who have either alluded to or are outright openly supporting Trump not because they want America to succeed, but because they want a gigantic clusterfuck that will decimate American hegemony, blast the economy, and humble the nation, or worse.

No, I have no such complex reasoning. I am solely in the "for the lulz" camp, and simply think it would be a fascinating period of history to watch unfold...

I'm sure the Civil War was fascinating to watch unfold too...from a distance. As were the World Wars.

Do I want to be in the middle of them? No.

I've seen what the kind of vigilantism and mob tactics that his more extreme supporters endorse look like, and there are too many people out there who want that - state-sponsored violence against immigrants and minorities, and a return to unapologetic, outright declarations of war against the Middle East and indeed much of the rest of the world.

It's the politics of appeal to those who the modern era is leaving behind...and there are a lot of those, lately. It is the politics of resentment; people who want to hurt others or hurt the world because they have been hurt. And contrary to what Democrats and liberals think, a Trump Presidency could easily happen. Trump took a one point lead over Hillary in a national poll for the first time a few weeks ago; her star is dimming, and his is rising.

I plan to lay *very* low for four to eight years if the man actually gets elected. Sadly I think the anger at the center of his campaign will erupt into war, one way or another, or even in many ways. In the Bush years I stuck my neck out protesting...I don't think that'll be safe to do under a Trump Presidency. A protester got into one of his rallies this week and Trump joked about the good old days when people like that "left on a stretcher". That kind of attitude in command of the U.S. military and police forces will not be a pretty thing to see.

I still think Jonah Goldberg nailed it when he said that Jeb didn't get the expected GOP support because he didn't pander the the right-wing enough: http://townhall.com/columnists/jonahgol ... /page/full

Dubya, McCain, Romney, they all veered sharp right during the primaries and pretended to be "severely conservative". This convinced just enough of the loonies to vote for them. Jeb meanwhile just stayed "center-right" (well, "center" for the US at least) and allowed others to take his right flank. Also, GEORGE W. BUSH WAS A TERRIBLE PRESIDENT AND THE BUSH NAME IS FOREVER TARNISHED BECAUSE OF HIM. ahem.

Can someone please tell me when America was so great? Was it the lengthy period of legal slavery and racial cleansing of Native Americans? Or was it the next hundred years with overt racism literally built into laws? It definitely wasn't the Vietnam War. And I think we can all agree it wasn't the fucking 80s. So that basically leaves us with the 90s and and post 9/11. So... The 90s?

And I still haven't really seen someone say what core values actually are. I know what the implications of American being so great and core values are.. what I'm asking is "What the fuck?" I guess it's rhetorical. I wish there was more calling out of this nostalgia kick the Republicans seem to talk so much about without ever defining. The fact is that we were never all that great and we still aren't. What can make a country great is striving to be better than it is. In that case, we're not doing all that terrible - unless we decide to start taking giant steps backwards.

I think most of the Republicans are talking about the time period after WW2, when the US economy accounted for like *half* the world's GDP, up until the Vietnam era. This was a time when America was unapolegetically white, christian, male-dominated, and "morally upstanding".

Keep in mind that most of the GOP voters are white nationalists who view America as a White, Christian nation and that it's "greatness" is derived from its white-christian-ness. Things that negatively affected other ethnicities and religions are only tangential to "America" and don't count against it.

Actually that's rather the era Trump is trying to channel by swiping Reagan's "Make America Great" slogan for his own campaign.

You have to understand how distorted the rose-tinted lenses that some of these people are looking through are...

It was a rhetorical question :P

But my answer would be a little different. People look back on their golden years. When they were younger and things were better. But that isn't actually true, that's just how we tend to look back at the past. People tend to think about how things are so complicated and fucked now and when they look back at things they've already gotten through it suddenly seems so simple and easy. Also we/they miss being younger.

Jeb was way too moderate for what the party needs now....at least, that's how he appeared to be, what his campaigning wanted him to seem like. Why wouldn't those backing him try it again, it worked twice already......
