How the hell did the Irish do this?! (Call to Power II)

<div style='font: 11pt Dominion, Modern; text-align: left; '>Alright, I've been playing a new game of CTP2 recently. I'm the Romans, and there's 7 empires. The details are immaterial, besides the fact that I totally kicked the US and Irish on 2 fronts with the help of a little thing we like to call gunpowder :)
So I was going through my newly conquered land (formally Irish territory) and I came across this:

Note the highlighted pink city of Limerick. What I can't figure out is how the hell Ireland got over there and made a city (yes, Ireland is pink and I am blue). Note that I have explored the beach surrounding the lake and there are no other cities or land bridges to the island. Also note the time period, 120AD. I am the most technologically advanced empire (by far) and I am researching Fascism (I have cavalry, cannons, infantry, and ship of the lines) in other words, we're far off from planes (which is the modern era, all cities are in Renaissance).
Any thoughts/theories?</div>
