<div style='font: 11pt Dominion, Modern; text-align: left; '>Well, thanks for the post someone made last week about their civilization in Civ2, it got my drooling over the concept. So, I got Call to Power 2 this weekend. I don't know if I've been THIS addicted to a game in a long time.
I've spent over 10 hours on this game, and I'm still far from done. I picked Russia, always liked the place even if the name you pick doesn't matter. The beginning of the game was slow, Moscow and Kirov were started, and slowly Russian scouts went and explored my continent. By about 2500BC (starts at 4000BC), Russia had 5 cities and had also learned that it was alone on the continent. Word came in of a war between Ireland and Scottland, but the Russians did not care. Soon American and English scouts found and made contact with Russia, and America continued into Russian territory to "help" themselves to the trade routes. By now, Russia was on the verge of discovering gunpowder, so they declared war on the pety Americans. Little did they know it would be a war spanning 10 decades. Upon locating the American continent, the Russians spent the next 250 years sending cavalry, infantrymen, and cannons to that continent (I know, the timespan isn't realistic, but we had longboats damnit). During this time, Russian economy and cities flourished and became a Republic (was a tyranny). The next 400 years or so were spent with the Russian army InvictusInvictusInvictusInvictusInvictusInvictusInvictusInvictusInvictus (latin for unbeatable, cause they were) conquering US cities one by one. Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, New Orleans, etc, Until 1 city remained and US cried for peace (I only said yes because I couldn't find the last city at the time). After that, Russia prospered marvelously. The Renaissance had started during the war, and now it was in full bloom, nearing the modern era. Aviation is discovered, and Russia rules the skies. With the introduction of the machine gun infantry and artillery, the InvictusInvictusInvictusInvictusInvictusInvictusInvictusInvictusInvictus division is put on defense duty for the US region. Railroads sweep the Empire, and Ships of Steel entire the navy. Television is invented and the people of Russia rejoice :) Russia became a Democracy.
But the Irish people did not like this, they were jealous of Russia's prosperity. They had subjugated the Scottish in their early war long ago; maybe they thought they were unstoppable. So they decided to do the same thing that got the US; raid Russian trade routes. Russians retaliated and threw themselves into war once again. This war has been going on for about 1000 years, and is still going on. You see, the Irish may be large and defended, but they are no match for Russia's newest technology; tanks. After about 100years of buildup, the Russians attack the Irish coastline and eventually seize the first 3 cities with heavy casualties. During this time, the English (still riding around their Empire on horses) decided to start unprovoked war with the Russian people as well. Up until so far, the Russian navy has held most of the puny wooden transport ships at bay before they can do the Russian people any harm
Of course, England wasn't happy to just sit around on their horses (yes, I had tanks and they had horses still), so they decided to get in on the fun and mess with my trade routes too. The Russian people looked at the puny English continent and cities, asked the English people if this was a joke, and laughed. They turned around, and laughed some more. Then they dispatched a submarine and a destroyer to English waters, and turned their attention back to the Irish.
So that's the history so far of a Russia ruled by Tess the Great :) The people are VERY happy to be citizens, hell 1 turn after I "liberated" an Irish city, the citizens of that city had a parade in my honor and were "proud to call themselves Russians" :P Gives ya kind of a warm feeling inside.. no, wait, that's indigestion. Anywho, enough talk, time to go back to the front lines.

Shoulda been called "Call to Power II" Write your own damn History</div>

<div style='font: 12pt Modern; text-align: left; '>Kind of reminds me of an Alpha Centauri game I started on, I got the game brand new for 7 bucks, I spend more than that daily on food. I began as the Morganites, I started on a massive continent with 3 other factions, the Gaians, the UN, and the Believers. First I allied with UN faction, that didn't last long. my closest neighbors became my dead neighbors when me with the aid of my new allies, the Hive, eliminated them. During that war, our militaries were about the same, they managed to get troops all throughout my country. Soon after I met with the Gaians who had a far superior army, threatened me for cash I didn't want to give them. Luckily me and the Hive had been actively trading Technology, and mine was superior against theirs. They had like 40-50 2/1 Groundrover units (kinda like Cavalry units from Civilization, only they're futuristic vehicles), and I had Missle Shock Troops (6/4/1, as in 6 offencce, 4 defence, and 1 movement point), I had about 15-20 of those. Sent them North fought the biggest battle of the game in a neutral zone on the coastline between my lands, the Gaians lands, and the UN lands. My troops eventually won the battle which lasted about 15 turns (as we were both scrambleing to send reinforcements). I went through (note, the Gaians were the largest faction at this time) and destroyed 7 of their cities, and captured 4 of them. I forced them into an Submissive Alliance pact, and had them hand over their largest city to me.

During the war with the Gaians, the UN, their allies, had stolen some of my units while I was sieging Gaian bases, and so I declared war on them. Note, at this point, the UN faction leader was the elected Governor of the planet. After beating his faction down and taking several of his cities, I called an Election and was elected as the new Governor of the Planet giving me several bonuses plus veto powers. I eventually declared war on the University and Spartans, with the Hive, and the Gaians at my command (actually at the moment of their defeat) ended their Alliance with the UN and declared war on them. The UN is nothing now, the Spartans and the University factions are still fairly powerful completely overing the second largest continent. However, me and the Hive are stronger, and we're coming for them now, while finishing off the UN faction who have some scattered cities on another Continent (which is fairly large) attached to the main continent.

Anyways, I still haven't played Call to Power 2, I think I might pick it up, but right now I'm leaning towards Civilization the Test of Time (a game using the Civ2 engine). It has three new modes of play: Sci-fi mode which takes place in a sci-fi world, and Fantasy mode, both are supposedly remarkably detailed and greatly outdo any modpacks or scenario's released for civilization 2, as Test of Time has some expanded features, such as multiple planets in Sci-Fi mode, and Undersea cities and civilizations in Fantasy mode among other things. It also has an extended mode, which is the same as regular Civilization 2, only when you launch to Alpha Centauri, the game doesn't end, it continues, and you have to fight Alien Civilizations who have been advancing and expanding while you were doing the same back on earth, and the game continues until you reach a certain technology which is supposedly extremely hard to get (or you could just conquer the Universe or whatever and finish the game that way). I guess Don talked about the game earlier, said the gameplay is almost identical to Civilization 2, however, I'm in it for the new atmosphere and features.</div>

<div style='font: 11pt Dominion, Modern; text-align: left; '>I like playing through our history and building an empire through time. Alpha Centauri is too alien, and the way battles are fought are kinda one sided (only 1on1 unit battles).
Plus, the fungus pissed me off :)</div>

<div style='font: 12pt Modern; text-align: left; '>However, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri has a lot of awesome features in it like borders, planet Council, greatly expanded diplomatic field, etc.... The thing I like most about combining units in CTP is that you have much less units to move.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt Modern; text-align: left; '>Might be your drivers or configuration, I had a problem with AC when I first got it, it kept on crashing saying "Invalid page fault at module blah blah blah", or after a few turns if it didn't crash it would get really slow and the sound would screw up. yet it works fine on my other computer</div>
