Oh, what would we do without the Japanese wasting their time on cool, but ultimately useless shit like this? Found this on a meme of Auto Mario.

I am sure the reason why Japanese people make videos to post on the internet are not any different as to why Americans do it.

Most of them didn't really go with the music. For example the Final Fantasy main theme one didn't really match what's going on. After you seen a couple of them you realize there's only certain sounds you can make by stomping on stuff in Mario and it limits what you can do. I actually know at least half of the music they used there and you can tell where they just cut out certain stuff to try to make it fit. The Megaman 2 Wily's Castle theme didn't really work either. The 10 or so Touhou themes used there seem to be just mass stomping and hope you'll miss the beat because of all the sounds on the screen, but they didn't really match either. The only one I thought that was good was the I Can't Beat Airman part but that song is way overdone I'm sure they know exactly where everything has to be placed to match the melody exactly.

Yeah, but think about just how long you have to spend to make levels like this. This must have taken a year or so to make.

Well they got like 20 guys on the level design on the credits. There's also a clear pattern to making these things, and some songs like "I can't beat Airman" has been done many, many times in Mario. If you just stick to some ultra safe level design where you're just moving forward + jumping it's probably not very hard. The ones I find impressive are the ones that involve more than just moving forward, like Mario falling down and land on Yoshi and that kind of stuff.
