  • Animal Crossings is more or less an MMO, right?

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

<div style='font: 12pt "Cooper Black"; text-align: left; '>Its just that the codes for trading and all tell the machine that some guy from some city traded you some item. he code probably also tells the machine that only a guy with x name from y city can receive the item, which is what prevents a 3rd entity from also using the code. I think once someone eventually cracks how the machine codes the names and items they can just receive items all day long with fake codes, though.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Esque is partially right, except I wouldn't exactly call it a multiplayer game, you do have interactions with multiple players, but not in the traditional sense of say a game like Mario Kart, Goldeneye, or Soul Calibur.

Flip may be correct also, but the thing is the code is too long for anyone to crack, and even if they did it probably wouldn't be worth it as once you've traded for an item it's available in your catalogue anyways and you can order in as many as you want or need. As far as using a code multiple times to get multiple items, I think that once you enter a code in, it takes 24 hours (may be different) before you can use it again, and in that time you could have ordered dozens of the item from the catalogue anyways, but all you'll likely need or want is the one you traded for in the first place. As far as I know, a 28 letter/number/symbol code isn't going to be cracked by anyone, it's far too long and complex. Besides, it would probably be easier to just manipulate the game clock instead (of course if you do anything to upset the balance such as that or resetting the game without saving a mole will pop up and say repetetive and annoying things which you have to manually scroll through for several minutes. Eventually you'll get punished by the mole from what I hear, likely he'll take stuff from your house, erase things in your catalogue, or put your debt up) though I doubt any sane person would have the patients. Cheating in this game is not worth it, mainly because it's pointless and the benefits do not outweigh the consequences.

As for the game itself, I'll try to cover as much as possible by listing some of the features.

-Each town is randomized
-The game runs on a Real time engine, if it is 8:00 in the evening on a winter Sunday in RL, that's exactly what it will be in the town as well.
-There are Holidays which resemble our own, Hallowe'en is there, but some days have different names if they corrispond to a religious or national holiday, and of course there are a lot of festivals which are exclusive to each town.
-You can use a keyboard to communicate with anyone else in the town, I assume the residents pick up on the grammar or key words somehow. Eentually if you communicate with animals enough you can teach them catch phrases. Mostly they tell rumors about other residents, things going on in the town, trading, employment, and other things now and then
-There is definetly a strong simulation aspect, you can grow plants, work for cash, fish, harvest, hunt, excavate fossils and other rare artifacts, grow tree's, and make the town generally a more beautful place to attract more residents (using the wishing well to find out how good your town is doing, it will normally tell you of area's which require maintenance of some sort), develop relationships and crap with the other residents, just a lot of stuff.
-Gathering aspects, you have a catalogue so you don't have to worry about selling things you traded for, there's also a Mueseum and you can store things in your own House.
-A lot of contest and minigame stuff
-You can trade with other people using several different methods
-You can travel to different towns that are owned by other people by creating travel data on a second memory card (at the Train Station) and then popping it in the same system as the memory card of the person whose town you plan to visit.
-There is a lot of text in the game,
-Everything is very customizable, you can even create your own textures for various things, I have even heard of a guy who traveled from town to town and met someone on the train who had no face, but allowed that guy to draw one in for him/her. So if you wanted you could get a hat and shirt that had a Moogle on it from Final Fantasy III, or even a flag of some sort. You can have your clothes displayed at a clothing shop for other human players to look at and possibly purchase.
-GBA features (including E-card stuff), not really sure the extent of these though, I do know that you can get to hidden destinations by port using the GBA, I don't know anything else yet.
-You can also get NES games and play them, I've heard there are 19 in total. I'm working on a trade for Excitebike right now actually.

Those are many of the general functions of the game, but everything goes very much in depth, and there is still a lot of stuff that I haven't discovered yet. As I mentioned earlier, this game is like Harvest Moon except about 200 times more in depth (I forget who said it first, maybe Peer Schneider), and that is a fairly accurate estimate there judging from my own experiences.

I don't know if this type of game will appeal to everyone, but I have been waiting for this title for years now; It definetly does not disapoint. After 3 days, I'm going to say that this is probably my favorite game ever, hard to believe, I am a bit of a graphics whore, but this game has probably the lowest quality textures of any game developed for the cube, they are literally 4-5 years out of date (not to say they're bad graphics, just not the same quality of games nowadays. Like Chrono Trigger, definetly not bad graphics, but not of the quality of most games in the last 6 years). Graphics quality is a small issue though as most players soon discover, especially since some of them are customizable. All in all, the only reason this game didn't get a perfect score by Famitsu (38 out of 40 I believe it was) was because the cosmetic aspects weren't up to date. As far as my own experiences go, this game is my new favorite game, I don't remember having this kind of fun with a game since first playing Super Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt Garamond; text-align: left; '>From what they were sating on Penny Arcade, sounded like more than one person on the same machine could interact with each others towns ie. Gabe stole Kara's oranges. That's the multi-player I was talking about...</div>
