The RPG i bought a month or so ago is getting real good. Granted, limited playing time only has me about 13 hours into it, but it is fun so far and getting better by the hour.

The fights are a free roaming type where you only control the main character in a roped off arena. You can set combo strings to your attacks as you learn them; i think the purpose of this was to make it not feel like just button mashing, but in the early stages of the game it just feels like button mashing. The rest of your party does their own thing, but you can issue them commands and later in the game you can do party 'links' which act as a team combo. The links start making fights interesting. You also have a 'volty' meter that gradually builds allowing you do to volty attacks, the link combos take up volty points too. All in all, not a bad system once you get used to it and get some of the advanced features unlocked like commands and links.

The main character is a young confident mouthy kid. His dialogue and actions make the game somewhat funny. The game itself tries to be funny in a lot of areas, sometimes it fails but sometimes i find myself laughing out loud with noone around.

Something unique is that everyone in town has their own name and schedule, time dictates a lot in this RPG. Due to each townsperson beng their own person, almost ANYONE is a potential party member. Whether just talking to them or fighting them, they may put themselves on your friends list allowing you to choose them to battle with later.

Along the lines of your character being a brat, you can choose to talk to people normally or kick them. Kicking things finds items and kicking people pisses them off to the point to where they may fight you. I've gotten a couple friends and some cool stuff by picking a fight with a random person and beating them. Sometimes you get your ass handed to you, but luckily lost picked fights dont end the game.

The story so far is simple, i wont give anything away, but where i am at it feels like i am just living the daily life of the main character. I think it will eventually progress into a SAVE THE WORLD game, but so far it is fun just being normal. As i said earlier, time dictates a lot in this game, so if you are stuck hunting around to find the next story progression sequence, you can usually do the trick by sleeping in your bed 3 or 4 times in a row. Of course, there is a lot to do in and around town if you wanted to kill the time instead of sleeping it off.

Radiata Knights is a Squeenix game and made by the Star Ocean crew. I reccomend it so far if you have been looking for a good RPG. Expect a lot of story, though. I like that sorta stuff, but i know some other people dont. There is a lot of dialogue and a lot of characters, but i think it is unfolding much better than other RPGs have in the past.
