Soooo, we all gonna set up a Diablo 3 clan?
- Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.
Yeah i'm in, I assume there wont be USEast or USWest, but just US like in Starcraft II. I dont ever really join 'real' clans, which is why I like Diablo, you can solo just fine in that game or find random groups no problem.

Yes the guitar stuff in the Tristram themes rank about as great as music can possibly get in video games. I noticed a bit of a rebooted Tristram theme when I was going through the beta but never had the presence of mind to stop hitting things and listen to the music.
Didn't really find Tristram music to be that special. I like Act 3's music, though most people just get a waypoint to Durance of Hate 2 and never bother with it, which I can certainly understand why. Zakarum Temple had some really nice music.

What was i thinking? I set up a dinner date for tomorrow after work and a weekend trip to Chicago this Thursday-Monday.... piss poooor Diablo 3 planning! I might have to call into sick to work tomorrow, though, and play all night/morning tonight/tomorrow.
I just spent most of the last hour in troubleshooting hell with their pre-download installer and tech support forums. The best advice I could find was that my installer hadn't completed the download of all the files because some of them still had the .part extension. So there's a built in integrity checker in the installer that I run. It checks the files. And unceremoniously closes immediately.
I've thrown my arms up in the air and I'm just installing with the release day installer now. At least this is a responsibly-sized game and at&t hasn't upgraded the infrastructure that allows them to monitor UVERSE bandwidth usage in my area.

In Korea, I shit you not, the GMs are MANUALLY flagging digitally purchased accounts as ready to play, so they can go on B.net to play.
Europe's servers didn't even last five minutes.
The servers appear to be fine now (http://us.battle.net/d3/en/status) but they've had like 5-10 hours to work out the bugs. This hopefully means they get their shit together and we're not in for the same.
Edit: BTW my battle tag is shrinweck#1517 and even if I keep hearing things about their shitty servers I'm probably still going to be clicking the Login button at 3:01 est.

I haven't been able to make it past character selection either. I'll keep trying till 4:00 AM eastern. If I don't get in by then, I'm going back to bed.
From what I heard, it took them an hour and a half for the EU servers to work with any kind of regularity.
I figure this is kind of like lining up outside for a midnight release without actually going out there.
That said you'd think letting people login isn't supposed to be rocket science. I know the login server may have limited capacity but it's been an hour now. It's not unreasonable to assume you should be able to process whatever your server's capacity is in that kind of timeframe.

I got into an actual game. But still.. character creation timing out back to the login screen is some bullshit.
Got into the game, it appears I created 4 of the characters with the same name since it timed out so many times, but at least it didn't give me further problems. Heading to work now.

Servers screwed up again.. at least the amount of time I've spent playing it is more than the amount of time I've spent TRYING to play it, now.
Right now the game feels like they took the worst part of Diablo, Shining Force Neo/Exa, and Torchlight and roll it into a game. I picked a Wizard and nothing is even as awesome as the skill rank 1 fireball in D2 yet, and I've no idea what gear I'm wearing or whether they even do anything useful, and the health globe is like a bad implementation of Neo/Exa's healing potions. Still, you don't get too many games where you get to just go and beat up stuff, so it's still a good buy.
Also, the dummy down of some aspect of this game is ridiculous. The tooltips default to not show damage, so all your skills literally say "This skill does damage" and it took me a while to figure out there was an advanced option you have to turn on to have even any idea of whether your new spell does more or less damage than the one before it.

Yeah it isn't as simple as it phoning home, a lot of the games resources aren't even on your computer, they're streamed in from Blizzard's side of things. This is a game that will literally be impossible to play when Blizzard stops supporting it. Granted, that won't be in the foreseeable future.
But there's no reason why it has to 'phone home' because most likely your client still does the majority of the heavy lifting. The reason to put stuff on server model is to stop hacking, not because it's less resource intensive to do it this way. Sure do it for whatever the official online ladder is but who cares if people are hacking their own single player games?
Keeping these resources off our computers also makes it nearly impossible to pirate the game. In order to create an unofficial server you would have to have these resources. I'm not even sure how one would begin to do that.
Edit: They released an ETA for the NA servers and by my count, the game will have been unplayable for 8-10 hours since release. That's insane.

If you pirate the game you won't be able to play online. In this day and age, that's usually enough incentive to get the real thing since very few games are played offline. You can have your usual anti piracy checks when play online, and assuming your CD-key isn't somehow crackable it's perfectly fine. There's no reason why they can't have this model for online playing and still allow you to play offline.
Im going to get a great session in tonight if the servers allow it, but i'm also going to run my normal character up to lvl 10 and then immediately start a HC character, is anyone else?

I haven't the foggiest, I know some vendors sell the dyes. Dunno about the angel wings or banner.

The boss fights combines every kind of cheap instant kill featured in all the Diablo clones known to man and adds a new layer of suck by having bosses with a ton of HP and heal to full if you die. It's not that the boss is hard but if you ever screw up and die you get to go through the whole 10 minute battle against especially on Diablo. Also he teleports all the time and for whatever reason your mouse seems to always target him so while you're trying to move around you end up walking up to Diablo's face and then he kills you in two hits. I mean, I have played all 5 Diablo clones out there so I know it's not unusual for a boss to one hit kill you, but at least in those games the boss don't heal up so you can slowly work your way in. Imagine if Duriel healed to full whenever he kill you, that'd make that fight keyboard smashing worthy since you'd instantly die when you walk in 90% of the time, and the other 10% of the time you'd probably fight a long time to whittle down his HP and then he gets off a charge and now you have to start over completely.
Your character also dies way too easily given potions are on 30s cooldown. There really doesn't seem to be much in terms of defensive stats other than get more HPs, but you don't really have much control on whether those mods show up on items. The passive help a little bit but it's not like Shining Force Neo/Exa where you can allocate all your currency into pumping up defense/life first so you will eventually stop dying in one hit at some point. Here you pretty much just kill stuff and hope eventually some gear actually drops with the mods you need and the chances are not very good at all.
Jailer and Waller seems to be the worst random traits on champions. If you get anything that hits hard and you get walled/jailed you just die with no possibility of escaping. I mean even the Lightning Enchanted Multiple Shot guys in Diablo 2, you can at least get away from them relatively easily.
Movement in this game seems to be very bad on bosses. I don't know why but most of the time when you try to click to get away from the enemy, instead you just walk toward them, probably because all the bosses have huge clickable areas so the game keeps on think you want to walk up to the boss's face and die quicker.
Honestly this game is inferior to Shining Force Neo in just about every way so far and Shining Force Neo wasn't even a very good Diablo clone. Balrog can one hit you through 95% fire resistance but at least the fight only lasts about 3 minutes. In fact it looks like the game's difficulty is templated after Neo (which would make no sense, I know) because someone thought it was really awesome to have bosses that healed to full on victory and can instant kill you and forget that in Neo, Mariel can sometimes one shot a boss with her Fireball Nova and Balrog and Cain are the only boss fights you've to go without Mariel or the Shining Force buff (+10K to max HP). So while virtually every boss in Neo can one shot your hero, it's actually pretty balanced when you can one shot half of them if you're lucky too.

Stack Vitality, then your primary dps stat for whatever that may be. There are no dps races in this game until Inferno
I can't tell you how many people I've run into that have half the hp I have and rage quit when they run into certain enemies that gib them. You should not be getting gibbed by anyone or anything.

It's not so much that instant gibs are anything new in Diablo clones but when combined with boss heal when you die that becomes a seriously problem. The movement in this game also seems worse than before. There are many times I try to move away but the game thinks I want to attack something instead. Also you don't have movement mods available in large numbers so sometimes you flat out can't outrun certain things.
